Recycling

General Information

Recycling reusable materials preserves natural resources, improves the environment, and reduces waste deposited in our landfills. Henrico County encourages its residents and businesses to do their part in preserving the environment. As a member of the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) we offer this valuable service through our numerous recycling drop-off centers, which are conveniently located throughout the County, and through our curbside recycling program.

Drop-off Recycling Centers

The County maintains 12 recycling centers throughout Henrico that allow residents to bring glass bottles and jars, metal cans and foil products, #1 or #2 plastic bottles, newspapers, and mixed paper. These centers are located at many of the County's fire stations and both the Charles City Road and Springfield Road Public Use Areas. • Fire Station #1, 110 E. Azalea Ave.
• Fire Station #2, 2400 Darbytown Rd.

• Fire Station #7, 2701 E. Laburnum Ave.
• Fire Station #9, 9401 Quioccasin Rd.Recycling center is expected to reopen March 2012.

• Fire Station #13, 12491 Church Rd. – Recycling center will be closing Monday, October 17, 2011 and is expected   to reopen in the Fall of 2012.

If you live in a single family detached home accessible from a public road there is no need to use the drop off recycling sites. Curbside recycling collection service is available to you at no charge and collections are every other week. Please call the recycling hotline at 340-0900 for further details.

 

Reminder:

To conserve space in the mixed paper compartment at your local recycling center, please deposit newspapers in the separate Southeastern Recycling boxes where available. Please do not place foam packaging or Styrofoam material in the recycling boxes. These are not recyclable and cause litter problems at our facilities. All foam packaging or Styrofoam material should be placed with your normal trash.

Curbside Recycling

If you are a Henrico County resident and live in a single family detached home accessible from a public road curbside recycling collection service is available to you through the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA). This service is free to county residents and collections are every other week. Please remember that recycling bins must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day and there is no need to cover your recycling bin when it rains. Sorting of recyclable materials is not required and bottles and cans should be cleaned of residues and caps and lids discarded in your regular trash. Glass bottles, metal cans, #1 and #2 plastic containers, newspapers, and mixed paper are accepted in the curbside recycling program.

Electronic Waste Recycling

The Division of Solid Waste and Recycling periodically conducts used electronic waste recycling events (computers, TVs, printers, and anything with a plug).
