Lakeside Avenue

The Lakeside Enhancement Plan completed in March 1995, provided for significant public improvements, drainage facilities, curb and gutter and landscaping from the City of Richmond line out to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

Phase I of the improvements was completed in November 2001; Phase II was completed in August, 2007. The improvements are intended to help provide order and cohesiveness to the area. The improvements have fostered renovations and significant investment in the development of new commercial properties.

The area has been designated as a Virginia Enterprise Zone.

In the fall of 2007, students in the VCU Master of Urban and Regional Planning program created the Lakeside Avenue Revitalization Plan (PDF, 22MB) as an economic tool to serve as a blueprint for future development along the corridor.
